New Old Games: August 11

by Adam Robinson on

I’m a day late on this kind of thing, but what do you expect? After being burned so, so badly last week (by trusting crazy things like company press releases, no less), playing it safe seemed to be the best, brightest idea I could muster. Haha, I’m just kidding, I was playing Strong Bad’s Cool Game For Attractive People Episode One–Homestar Ruiner, this week’s Wii Ware game. It’s just like those Sam and Max adventure games that all the cool PC kids have been raving about lately, albeit it is a mite linear. Totally worth the purchase in order to play legendary boxing game Snake Buster 5. That game has come a long way. It’ll set you back a cool 1,000 Wii points, but that’s a small price to pay for great gaming (also, if you can blow 1,000 on this game, you can set aside $15 for Braid. Don’t be a jerk).

There’s more after the break, I promise!

A pair of TurboGrafx16 games this week, and both are imports. The first, Break In (1-4 players, 700 points), is a pool game. I skipped this title, simply because I’ve yet to have a virtual pool experience that’s been worthwhile. Some may call that being prudish; I call it being a savvy consumer. On the other hand, yet another shooter in the form of Star Parodier (1 player, 900 points) hits the VC. My former room mate got this and promptly texted me informing me that one of the playable characters was goddamn Bomberman. That right there is enough to sell me on this game. Besides, it’s a crapshoot as to what games we’ll be getting next week anyway. Here’s hoping they throw something up to help Kevin in his mighty endeavor.
