New Old Games: July 14

by Adam Robinson on

E3, which used to be the video game event of the year, kicks off this week. As everyone turns their eyes towards the bright lights and the conference halls of the L.A. Convention Center, two new titles for the Virtual Console and one rather interesting title for Wii Ware hit the digital shelves. Aren’t you excited about this? This is more games than we usually get! And not everything is terrible! But can you trust me? Did I drink the Kool-Aid? Click the jump and find out.

Both the Virtual Console games are kind of cool in their own respects. For instance, take a gander at Ninja Commando, a 900 point Neo Geo title that is, according to a rambling, drunken hobo, quite rare and hard to find. It also shares the dubious honor of being released in Japan the same week that Super Mario RPG was. This friendly reminder that Nintendo loves stepping on our balls was brought to you by Nintendorks Radio.

Also released was classic(?) NES title Donkey Kong 3. You didn’t know you needed so many Donkey Kong titles. There are worse titles to spend the 500 points on, but you could also save them and buy the much better Donkey Kong Country games. Do yourself a favor!

Jumping over to the Wii Ware side of things, everyone’s favorite “Huh?” game, Major League Eating: The Game, which one would assume simulates the fast-paced, in-your-face pseudo-sport of competitive eating, came out as well. Now, I’m about as brave as the next man, but I think I’m going to save the 1,000 Wii Points this bad boy costs and reinvest them. Into other games. But if you are dying for impressions of this game, I’m sure a couple angry PMs to Travis Boris Stoke will force him into action.

As always, don’t forget to check out the VC and Wii Ware topic over on the forum. Tomorrow is gonna be awesome; jump in the Studio if you can!
