Smash Brothers? New Tekken Tag Tournament TwiiU trailer shows off costumes

by John "ANC" Barnes on

Already known about and shown in screenshots, the Nintendo character costumes in Tekken Tag Tournament 2 for Wii U are shown off in detail in this new trailer from New York Comic Con, and oh my God are they glorious. Words aren’t really going to do it justice, but to give you a hint of the things to come: keep in mind that one of the stalwart fighters in the Tekken series is a bipedal bear.

This is the first appearance of the Tekken series proper on a Nintendo console and Namco Bandai appears to be pulling out all the stops for the debut, with the trailer also showing the return of *Tekken 3*‘s Tekken Ball mode, exclusive to the Wii U version. The mode joins the previously announced and brand new Mushroom Match where characters change size as the signature Super and Poison Mushrooms from the Mario games litter the arena. All of this together makes it likely that TTT2 will see a lot of interest from Nintendo fans in much the same way that Link’s guest stint in Namco’s other 3D fighting series entry on a Nintendo console, *Soul Calibur II* on the GameCube, did for that game.

A reminder: Namco Bandai is involved in the development of the next Super Smash Bros. game.
