A Very Nintendork Christmas Gift Wrap Up!

by Ray on

Because what would the holidays be without some jackass bragging about his sweet haul? Welcome to this post. This Christmas was by far and away my most Nintendo-centric since I kinda, sorta, not really started giving the whole “grown man” thing a shot. Thanks to a best friend of mine since forever ago, I came home with a nice stack of Wii U related goodies and in the following words that I’m about to type, will share with you just what they are! So you see dear reader, unlike the lack of content on this site traditionally being due to laziness, this past week I’ve actually been spending any and all free time I could score playing video games. Well, just one really…

Batman: Arkham City: Armored Edition: The Game: U:

If there’s one thing on this Earth that I can honestly say I love almost as much as Nintendo, it’s obviously pizza, women beer rock ‘n roll Batman. And this Christmas break I had old pointy ears in spades not only with this game but with the Blu-Ray Dark Knight trilogy running in a healthy rotation on the television. I spent just about the entire holiday molded into a recliner next to the fireplace listening to Bane beat the shit out of Bruce Wayne while running through Arkham City on my gamepad. In fact by the time my mini vacation was up, I’d already torn right through the main story. This game is ridiculously addictive and while yes, there are a few framerate issues in this version, those are restricted pretty much to the cut scenes. There is one downside however as since I couldn’t be torn away from beating on thugs while dressed as a bat, my other gifts didn’t grab much of my attention.

Dark “Not Souls” 2:

This has been described to me as being very”Zelda-ish” by a number of online reviews which is of course enough to pique my interest. Also, it was free and that goes a long way. Just like every other title on this list, Darksiders 2 is an entry in a series of which I’ve never played the original. There’s today’s fun fact for you. I actually threw it in late one night and played just long enough to get a sense of the controls and have a look at its gams. It looks nice and you start off riding a damn horse so I expect good things once I finally sit down and sink my teeth into this thing.

Mass Effect 3: Wha-Happened? Edition:
[![ME3](/images/ME3.jpg?resize=800%2C575)](http://nintendorks.net/2012/12/a-very-nintendork-christmas-gift-wrap-up/me3/)

According to my save file I’ve logged about 3 hours into Mass Effect 3 and that’s just the intro (Heyo!). No but seriously ladies and gentlemen, even after watching the incredibly long comic book styled catch up on the events from previous games, I still couldn’t tell you what the hell is going on here story-wise. I think I’m going to put this one on the shelf for the time being until after I finish Darksiders when I’ll be able to completely invest myself into it. Wikipedia here I come.

And of course you can’t go wrong with eShop points. I received a 35 dollar card but after downloading Trine 2 and Nano Assault recently there is really isn’t much calling out to me at the moment. Maybe I’ll just sit on it for a while until Pikmans 3 or that Aliens game decide to show up.

Wii U Pro Controller:

Sorry ladies: This controller is possibly the most beautiful object I’ve ever wrapped my hands around and I haven’t even tried using it on any games yet! I just calm myself after a long day of work by breathing on it and rubbing it with a diaper. However the Wii U pro controller isn’t compatible with everything and that’s a shame. I’d like to meet the Einstein that didn’t think to make this work with New Super Mario Bros. and throw a grape soda can at the back of his head. It’s much lighter than I expected (without feeling cheap in any way) and according to the box, it provides up to 80 hours of play before needing to be recharged. That’s approximately 77 more than the gamepad!

So yes, all in all this Kwanzaa was a good one for your old buddy Ray. In addition to the list above, I also received quite the package from a fellow Nintendork staffer that shall remain nameless due to legal issues. Say, that reminds me: I never got my Christmas card from ChrisV82 in the mail. What gives buddy?

Happy continued holidays and we’ll see you after the New Year!
