Review: Scribblenauts Unlimited

More options than necessary

by Travis Woodside on

Scribblenauts Unlimited for the Wii U and 3DS is the best version of Scribblenauts ever made. It features an open world design (albeit 2D) with a general goal to make people happy with the items Maxwell can spawn out of his magic notebook.

Two player mode is supported for the Wii U version. A second player using the wii remote can point at any object or person Maxwell creates and take control of them to jump around or attack things. Since the name of the game is solving people’s problems by being a brilliant word smith this leaves the second player with nothing to do. The option exists, seemingly, to give a kid something to do while their bigger brother actually plays the game. This is a step above handing a four year old a controller and watching them pretend to play the game. This time they are playing! They just aren’t accomplishing anything.

Fun. Silly. Calming. Scribblenauts Unlimited is a slice of heaven… if you’re creative enough to wield its mighty powers.
