The Game Awards 2014: Classy Edition?
Remember when SpikeTV had their first Videogame Award Show? That was kind of exciting, right? Remember how about halfway through it you realized it was simply garbage, and continued to be year after year thanks to Spike and their perceived audience? Spike thought we were stupid, peppered the show with celebrities who usually had something to plug (and probably didn’t know why they were there), and used the worst videogame references as stabs at humor. The show morphed to the VGAs, and then finally VGX…I think the X was supposed to represent the neXt generation of gaming but instead stood for eXtra shitty.
Well, great news! After a decade-long run, Spike decided they couldn’t do any better than Joel McHale insulting the developers and audience, and dropped the show. This allowed Geoff Keighley to take the reigns and create what he and we thought the awards should be: a cross between E3 and The Oscars. Whether that will be accomplished or not remains to be seen, but tomorrow night at 6pm you can watch it live on Twitch, YouTube, and Zentrick (whatever the hell that is).
Here’s a good article about the whole ordeal, and you can view the nominations after the jump.
