What Did You Play? Eternal Snow Day Edition (February 2015)
It’s that time, and pretty much on time this time, so take your time.
Hey guess what I played. Go on guess. You’ll never guess.
3D Fantasy Zone: Opa-Opa Bros. (3DS) – You guessed it! The Sega 3D Classics series continues to be a winner with this version of the classic cute-em-up. I have Fantasy Zone in two other versions, but having it on 3DS and with the wealth of extra options has made it so much easier to get into than before. The final boss is a bastard, even with every available extra advantage enabled, so I still haven’t unlocked the new Upa-Upa mode, but I’ve had a lot of fun in the process. Also, for a 2D side-scrolling game they’ve once again knocked themselves out adding 3D on the backgrounds and even the tiny details on your ship and enemies. Recommended!
Hard Corps: Uprising (PS3) – Sometimes enemy bullets are hard to see, but Contra done by the Guilty Gear studio is pretty rad. “What the hell!?”
Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike (PS3) – I’ll never be much better than basically a button masher who knows how to do the special and super moves, but I still have fun. The added challenges and unlockable art in this version give it a little single player longevity.
Capcom vs. SNK 2 (PS3) – I already own the Gamecube version but the PS2 version was dirt cheap in a PSN sale. Possibly my favorite “feel” of any fighting game, even with a handful of obviously re-purposed sprites.
Tekken (PS3) – Galaga! I now have Tekken 1-3 in some form and I don’t think I’ll ever understand the fighting system.
Kid Chameleon (PS3) – Just enough to get the trophy on Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection.
Contra III (Wii) – Hard Corps: Uprising got me in a Contra mood. Still amazed at how there are basically only 3 normal sidescrolling stages in this one. Still haven’t beaten it.
Spelunky (PS3) – YEP.
Pinball Arcade (PS3) – YUP.
Super Hexagon (PC) – I’m rusty, but not as much as I thought I’d be for several months of not playing.
Academy Chess Puzzles (3DS) – 75% of the 750 puzzles done! The Hard ones are pretty hard! I do a bad thing and just brute force them half the time, thus learning not as much as I could.
Chess (internet/board) – I’m bad, who wants to play me? Still, it’s amazing how far the basic principles can take you against someone who doesn’t use them.
WHAT DID you PLAY???????????????????????????/
