November NPD: Holy Motherfucking Jesus that’s a lot of Wiis

by Cory Birdsong on

November 2008 Hardware Sales

  • Wii – 2,040,000

  • Nintendo DS – 1,570,000

  • Xbox 360 – 836,000

  • PSP – 421,000

  • PlayStation 3 – 378,000

  • PlayStation 2 – 206,000

Nintendo has got to be pleased. Two million Wiis in one month, and you still can’t just walk into a store and buy one. Add to that 1.5 million DSes. Despite our national economic clusterfuck, the industry bested last year’s November sales totals by 10%, and that is largely due to Nintendo. Now where are the games for this thing?

For some perspective and additional commentary, the numbers from last month and year are after the break. Software numbers later, maybe?

October 2008

  • Wii – 803,000

  • Nintendo DS – 491,000

  • Xbox 360 – 371,000

  • PlayStation 3 – 190,000

  • PSP – 193,000

  • PlayStation 2 – 136,000

November 2007

  • Nintendo DS – 1,530,000

  • Wii – 981,000

  • Xbox 360 – 770,000

  • PSP – 567,000

  • PlayStation 2 – 496,000

  • PlayStation 3 – 466,000

Wow, Sony needs to do something, and fast – all their numbers went down, while the competition increased (or remained at absurd numbers in the case of the DS). Microsoft has got to be reasonably pleased. The 360 isn’t performing like the Wii is, but they are doing respectable numbers, and at this point they can probably write off the PS3 as a contender for install base second place.
